Single vs double basin debate

I previously had a double basin (two smaller sinks) stainless steel sink with a black Moen faucet. I knew I wanted to change to a large single basin sink, but was unsure of the faucet tone. When I was pulling together my design board, I investigated a farmhouse sink, but I really liked the function of a workstation sink where accessories slide across a built-in ledge, saving space on the kitchen countertop. When I pivoted from the black fixture design to all brass fixtures, I changed my plans from a black granite composite sink to a white one. This is another risk that I may come to regret, but the white sink looked cleaner against the counters and lower navy cabinets than stainless steel design did. Debby (my designer) introduced me to the Stylish line of workstation sinks. The first model I looked at in the Versa collection was only 25” for the single basin and the larger models came only in a double basin configuration. After searching online, I found a new line of Stylish sinks called Canmore which had a 32″ single basin sink. I searched for local distributers, but ultimately found the sink I wanted at Wayfair. I watched the prices and in late November the sink went on sale for nearly 50% off, so I placed an order. The sink was delivered mid-November but sat in my hall cupboard till it was installed at the end of February.

Accessorizing

The sink was installed at the same time as the counters, but I still had to wait for the faucet to be installed, meaning another week of washing dishes in my bathtub. I like the look of my workstation sink, but I am still trying to figure out how to function with such a large sink. I bought a metal grid to help prevent scratches and there is a whole slew of sink accessories for these sinks and I think I might have purchased them all! The sink came with the cutting board and a metal colander, and I purchased an over-the-sink plastic colander, a basket to hold the dish brush and sponge, and a plastic over-the-sink dish rack. I use the cutting board and drying rack daily and I love the extra prep space.

The magic touch

I knew I wanted a gold touchless faucet to compliment my cabinet hardware and lighting. The very first purchase I made when I decided to renovate my kitchen was the gold Sto touchless, voice-activated faucet by Moen. When I got the delivery, I didn’t even know it was the faucet that had arrived as the box was so large. The Moen Sto had lots of cool features, perfect for a high-tech geek like me, but it was much taller than I had imagined, so I decided to return it. I then purchased the Align touchless faucet from Moen which was a little slimmer profile than the Moen Sto. As I investigated other brass lights and cabinet hardware, nothing matched with the Moen Align gold faucet. It was a lot more orange than I had hoped for but kept it as a backup as I liked the sleek profile. All the articles will tell you to mix metals, which I did with my stainless appliances and brass fixtures but mixing within the brass family didn’t look right to me; I am a match-matchy person. 🙂 After some reviews, a lot of people mentioned having the Delta Trinsic champagne bronze faucet. I purchased a third faucet and up until installation debated on whether to install the Moen Align or the Delta Trinsic.

Making a statement

The day the water was turned back on was a very exciting day. After almost two months of washing my dishes in my upstairs bathtub I was so ready for my sink and faucet to be installed. I chose the Delta Trinsic Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O Technology. It is a beautiful champagne bronze colour that compliments my cabinet handles and lighting perfectly. It also compliments the large workstation sink and makes an impactful statement on the back wall. I am still getting used to the sensor and have soaked my sleeves more than once, but it is great for when your hands are messy! It can sense the difference between a touch and a grab, so you just need to tap it lightly with any part of your hand or arm. I have read some negative reviews on battery life. Last week I had to change the batteries but am hoping it was because the batteries that came with the faucet were older. Time will tell! I am having one issue. When I am washing dishes at my dads, I keep tapping the faucet to turn the water on, but it isn’t a touchless faucet. 😉

Rookie Tip: Make sure you have your sink purchased before your counters are templated. Your counter provider will need to cut out the sink dimensions from counter top when they are customizing the cuts for your project.

Next post, we are coming to the end of the renovation, and the last design element, the backsplash was installed.
